St. David has gone a perfect 10-0 against Tombstone recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The St. David Tigers will challenge the Tombstone Yellow Jackets at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, St. David beat Bisbee 7-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Paisley Gooding spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Emma Hart was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. Camber Jacquez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Tombstone had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Eagles 15-2. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won three contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Kyla Gross and Bria Gross made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gross tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bria didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Kyla has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Gross scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Bria fired off three home runs, ten RBI, and one double while going 4-for-4. With that strong performance, Bria is now averaging an impressive 5 RBI per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Dobbins, who scored four runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brianna True, who scored a run while going 4-for-4.
Tombstone kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Tombstone pushed their record up to 4-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. David, their record now sits at 2-0.
Everything went St. David's way against Tombstone in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as St. David made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. David since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
