The Horizon Huskies will face off against the Chaparral Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Horizon has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Thursday, Horizon sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Mountain Pointe. The Huskies haven't had any issues with the Pride recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Horizon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colten Figueroa, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Johnny Issitt, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Chaparral won against Campo Verde on Tuesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Firebirds came out on top against the Coyotes by a score of 7-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Firebirds, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Truman Parker looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Gavin Mesa and Jake Catalfio did most of the damage at the plate: Mesa went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Catalfio went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Catalfio has posted since back in March. Parker Halvorson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Horizon's win bumped their record up to 15-8. As for Chaparral, their victory bumped their record up to 14-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Horizon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Horizon might still be hurting after the 11-5 defeat they got from Chaparral in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Huskies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
