The Beachside Barracudas and the Ponte Vedra Sharks squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Beachside Barracudas had to settle for second. They took a 52-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sharks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Beachside of the 64-53 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Beachside saw an underclassman step up: Madilyn (Madi) Ray dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Ray is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 15 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Kane, who scored seven points.
Ponte Vedra got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maya Richards out in front who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Rosendahl, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Beachside's loss dropped their record down to 20-5. As for Ponte Vedra, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season.
Beachside will head out on the road to square off against Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lincoln is coming into the contest with ten straight wins at home, so Beachside is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Ponte Vedra is on the road again on Wednesday and plays Springstead at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. Springstead will roll in looking for their 18th straight win, something Ponte Vedra surely won't give up without a fight.
