The Southern Wayne Saints posted their closest victory since December 21, 2023 on Wednesday. They skirted past South Johnston 64-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Southern Wayne got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayden Hardy out in front who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Hardy also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Christopher Carmon, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.
South Johnston's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Lee, who scored 15 points. Lee is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Cole Norris was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Southern Wayne's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-10. As for South Johnston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.
Southern Wayne will be playing in front of their home fans against East Wake at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. East Wake knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Southern Wayne likes a good challenge. As for South Johnston, they will head out on the road to face off against Smithfield-Selma at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Smithfield-Selma has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
