The Sunlake Seahawks''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They lost to Land O' Lakes at home by a decisive 20-6 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sunlake in their matchups with Land O' Lakes: they've now lost three in a row.
Jadon Olafsson threw for 30 yards on four of 12 attempts. On the ground, Caden Johnson rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown.
Leading Land O' Lakes to victory were Mason Clarke and Cody Gwinn. Clarke rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, while Gwinn rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown.
Sunlake's loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Hudson and 7-2 Nature Coast Tech (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.5% over those games). As for Land O' Lakes, their win bumped their record up to 5-5.
Sunlake will head out on the road to face off against Mitchell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mitchell has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 230 points over their last six games. As for Land O' Lakes, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wiregrass Ranch at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wiregrass Ranch will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
