The Cary Imps are taking a road trip to square off against the Broughton Capitals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cary will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Cary lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Chapel Hill, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. The Imps put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 8-2 win last Tuesday. While the Imps didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Cary got a great performance from Ben Baker as he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Baker has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cam Shea, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Gavin Mathis also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Broughton not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2025 (when they won 10-0). They never let Rolesville get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Capitals in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won three in a row.
Gray Veit looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has become a key player for Broughton: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-2 otherwise.
At the plate, Reign Taylor was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Weston Rhem was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Broughton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Broughton now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Cary, their record now sits at 7-0.
Broughton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cary hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. It's a different story for Broughton, though, as they've only averaged .238. Will they be able to contain Cary's hitters?
