Eaton is a perfect 4-0 against Weld Central since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Reds will square off against the Rebels at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Tuesday, Eaton made easy work of Manitou Springs and carried off a 15-5 victory. The Reds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.
Tito Lopez looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Everett Edinger was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Greyson Clingan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Weld Central came into Saturday's game having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Fort Lupton an 11-0 shutout on Saturday. With that win, the Rebels brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Luke Witzel was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double. Ezekiel Zavala also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Weld Central's record is now 7-11. As for Eaton, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Eaton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Weld Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Eaton took their win against Weld Central in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Reds since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
