The Wapahani Raiders posted their closest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Monroe Central out 37-35. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Wapahani also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Wapahani's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Megan Luce led the charge by scoring nine points along with three steals. Luce has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Destiny Felder was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Despite the loss, Monroe Central still got an impressive performance from Sydney Patterson, who scored 24 points along with five steals. Patterson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.
Wapahani has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Monroe Central, they dropped their record down to 13-6 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Wapahani will take on Union City at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Union City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Saturday. Monroe Central won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cowan at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. Cowan has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 30.
