Desert View is 1-9 against Sunnyside since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Jaguars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. Desert View has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Desert View couldn't beat Pueblo on Thursday even though they stacked seven runs on them in the seventh inning. The Jaguars fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 14-12.
Anissa Martinez led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Rikki Romero was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside got themselves on the board against Kofa on Tuesday, but Kofa never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Kings with a sharp 9-0 win. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Ashley Rosthenhausler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rosthenhausler was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Arianna Garcia was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since March 2nd.
Desert View now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Sunnyside, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Desert View hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. However, it's not like Sunnyside struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Desert View might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Sunnyside when the teams last played back in February of 2025. Will the Jaguars have more luck at home instead of on the road?
