South Granville has gone a perfect 10-0 against Louisburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The South Granville Vikings will challenge the Louisburg Warriors at 7:30 p.m. South Granville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Louisburg likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, South Granville lost to Southern School of Energy and Sustainability at home by a 83-68 margin. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Spartans are ranked 30th).
Despite their loss, South Granville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. DJ Hicks, who posted 18 points and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of KJ Terry, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards.
Meanwhile, Louisburg was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 49-45 to Carrboro. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Jaguars 11-3 in the first quarter.
South Granville will have to contain Luke Sheldon as he made an impact in Louisburg's last game. He earned 13 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Sheldon a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (75%). Jaylen Alexander was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.
Louisburg has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for South Granville, their record now sits at 16-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: South Granville has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39 boards per game. However, it's not like Louisburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for South Granville against Louisburg in their previous matchup last Saturday, as the team secured a 67-30 win. In that contest, South Granville amassed a halftime lead of 42-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
