The El Dorado Aztecs were the 62-41 winner over the Eastlake Falcons when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. El Dorado fell 43-30 to Eastlake on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, El Dorado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 951st, while Eastlake is ranked 456th).
El Dorado's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Quintez Floyd, who scored two points along with nine rebounds, and Cristian Velasquez who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for him.
Eastlake's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaron Vargas, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Vargas has scored at least 25% of Eastlake's points. Mateo Lares was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
El Dorado are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14. As for Eastlake, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-11.
El Dorado will be playing at home against Pebble Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Eastlake, they will head out on the road to face off against Coronado at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Coronado is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
