Baseball Game Preview: Buena Colts vs. Tucson High Magnet School Badgers

Buena and Tucson High Magnet School are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Colts will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Badgers at 4:00 p.m. Buena will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Buena's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Pueblo 14-0. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by eight runs or more this season.

Angel Olivarez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Austin Cushman and Branden Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Cushman scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Brown scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Brown a new career-high. Bryson Haymore was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Buena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pueblo only posted an OBP of .143.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Tucson High Magnet School's offense. They fell 4-0 to Sunnyside on Thursday. The Badgers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Buena's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Tucson High Magnet School, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.
