The Campbellsport Cougars will challenge the Omro Foxes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Campbellsport is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
If Campbellsport beats Omro with seven runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Cougars beat Central Wisconsin Christian on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Owen Bong spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Brody Nolan was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Jace Goebel was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Omro). They put the hurt on Weyauwega-Fremont with a sharp 21-5 victory on Saturday. The Foxes have beaten the Warhawks the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Warhawks has come to flipping the script.
Brock Frye made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Omro is 2-1 when Frye allows three or fewer hits, but 2-6 otherwise. Frye was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cade Boynton was a standout: he got on base in three of his six plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tanner Piper, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Omro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Campbellsport's win bumped their record up to 12-3-1. As for Omro, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Campbellsport has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Omro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
