The West Valley Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Corning Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. West Valley will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Last Saturday, West Valley made easy work of McKinleyville and carried off a 15-2 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by ten runs or more this season.
Aubree Wertz was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only three walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, West Valley let Jenni Carroll and Coral Tozer run wild. Carroll went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Tozer scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Cadynce Gippner was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
West Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Corning came up short against Los Molinos on Tuesday and fell 9-4. The loss continues a trend for the Cardinals in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost four in a row.
Miley Garcia was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
West Valley now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Corning, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Corning's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. It's a different story for Corning, though, as they've only averaged .232. Will they be able to contain West Valley's hitters?
West Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Corning in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 6-2. Does West Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Corning turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
