Even though the Riverside-Durham Pirates have not done well against the Hillside Hornets recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Riverside-Durham took down Hillside 73-54. The win made it back-to-back wins for Riverside-Durham.
Riverside-Durham got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Corey Hairston Jr. out in front who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Jaden Butler was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Hillside lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayde Braswell. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Braswell is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sulaiman Shackelford, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Riverside-Durham's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Hillside, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverside-Durham will take on Chapel Hill at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Chapel Hill is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.7 points per game. As for Hillside, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Southern Durham at 5:00 p.m.
