Marlborough is 8-2 against Groton-Dunstable since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. Marlborough is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Marlborough is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over South on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.
Shauna Bopp made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Marlborough got a massive performance out of Avery Horrigan, who went 1-for-3 with four runs and three RBI. Those RBI were Horrigan's first of the season. Erin Seder was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Marlborough always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Groton-Dunstable can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They walked away with an 11-6 victory over Fitchburg.
Like Marlborough, Groton-Dunstable also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaitlin Haggerty. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Haggerty was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Maddie Shamberger was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Marlborough's record is now 3-5. As for Groton-Dunstable, their record now sits at 2-6-1.
Groton-Dunstable's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marlborough has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Groton-Dunstable, though, as they've been averaging 11.4 hits. Given Marlborough's sizable advantage in that area, the Crusaders will need to find a way to close that gap.
