Caliche is 2-8 against Yuma since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Buffaloes are taking a road trip to square off against the Outlaws at 2:00 p.m.
Caliche lost 22-6 to Otis on Friday.
Caliche saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blaine Farquhar, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Colton Cochran was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Yuma hadn't done well against Merino recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Outlaws walked away with an 11-6 win over the Rams.
Jesus Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Christian Thomson was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Chris Wario, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Yuma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merino only posted an OBP of .406.
The victory got Yuma back to even at 1-1. As for Caliche, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Caliche suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Yuma when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Buffaloes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
