Desert Edge is 3-0 against Westview since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Desert Edge Scorpions will head out on the road to take on the Westview Knights at 7:00 p.m. Desert Edge is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
Last Tuesday, Desert Edge didn't have too much trouble with Verrado at home as they won 38-20. Given Desert Edge's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Verrado is ranked 215th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Desert Edge can attribute much of their success to Anaira Ortiz-Reyes, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine steals, and Aysja Ward, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and six steals. Ward has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jitzabeth Hielo Miles, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Westview came up short against Verrado on Tuesday and fell 46-38. Westview has struggled against Verrado recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Desert Edge is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. As for Westview, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.
Everything went Desert Edge's way against Westview when the teams last played back in January as Desert Edge made off with a 59-33 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Desert Edge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
