Jefferson is 9-1 against Spring Mills since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Spring Mills' hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Jefferson hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Cougars didn't even let Hedgesville on the board on Monday, marking the Cougars' second-straight 14-0 shutout.
Chloe Cowan was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jersey Rummel, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hedgesville only managed one hit.
Meanwhile, Spring Mills got the win against Smithsburg on Saturday by a conclusive 13-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cardinals.
Chloe Munson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sabrina Nutter, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Alexis Wagner was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Jefferson pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Mills, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jefferson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Spring Mills struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jefferson took their win against Spring Mills in their previous meeting on April 2nd by a conclusive 12-4 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
