The Viewmont Vikings were the 73-60 winner over the Woods Cross Wildcats when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Viewmont fell 54-42 to Woods Cross on Wednesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Viewmont has scored all season.
Viewmont lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Max Larsen, who scored six points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Larsen pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Drez Jensen, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Viewmont's lineup was just a bit different on Wednesday as Kade Cannon got a bit more time on the court (19 vs. his season average of 9.8). Cannon made the most of the opportunity, scoring nine points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Woods Cross got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hunter Jackson out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ben Smith-mecham, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Viewmont's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Woods Cross, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-15 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Viewmont will challenge Northridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northridge has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 505 points over their last eight games. As for Woods Cross, they will head out on the road to square off against Roy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Roy is ranked 70th, while Woods Cross is ranked 85th).
