There's no place like home for the Serra Catholic Eagles, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with a 72-61 win over Clairton on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Serra Catholic had a senior duo take command as Pete Burke scored 26 points and Isiah Petty scored 23 points. Tyler Sapida was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds.
Several Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryant Blair, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Blair scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Taris Wooding, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Serra Catholic's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Clairton, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Coincidentally, Serra Catholic and the Bears will both be playing the Blue Devils the next time they take the court. Serra Catholic will host the Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Bears will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
