It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but New Mexico Military Institute had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Robertson Cardinals with a sharp 7-1 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Colts, who have now won 13 matchups in a row.
Tegin Maloney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 15 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Nicolas Barcelo Teran was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
New Mexico Military Institute's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Robertson, they moved to 17-7 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.
As of now, neither New Mexico Military Institute nor the Cardinals have any future games scheduled.
