Morgan dropped down to 4-8 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Riverview Sharks, falling 17-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sharks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 on March 9th.
Morgan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was TALIYAH HOPKINS, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. HOPKINS has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
As for Riverview, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.
On Riverview's side, Olivia Creek made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Creek was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Riverview let Kylie Freeland and Mariah Mitchell run wild. Freeland went 1-for-4 with one home run and three runs, while Mitchell went 2-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Mitchell a new career-high. Kylieann Fitzenberger was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morgan will take on Sickles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gryphons have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Riverview, they will challenge Bloomingdale at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Sharks 3.5, the Bulls 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
