Douglas is a perfect 10-0 against Damonte Ranch since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Douglas has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Douglas heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Wednesday. They lost 12-2 to Spanish Springs. The Tigers were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the four matchups prior), but the Cougars' pitchers proved too tough.
Hailee Lister was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Gildea, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Damonte Ranch, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Reno get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won nine games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Damonte Ranch also got a great performance from Madison Gradillias as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. What's more, Gradillias posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Reese Matter, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Samantha Tapia was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Damonte Ranch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Reno only posted an OBP of .200.
Damonte Ranch is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Douglas, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-18.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Douglas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Damonte Ranch struggles in that department as they've averaged .412. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Douglas got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April against Damonte Ranch by a conclusive 18-12 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
