The Central Golden Eagles's game last Saturday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Sunday. They pulled ahead with a 46-45 photo finish over Holy Cross. Given Central's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked fourth in Massachusetts, while Holy Cross is ranked 100th in New York), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jai-lyn Garvin-martin, who scored 25 points along with four steals. Angela Hector was another key contributor, scoring four points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Holy Cross lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kyara Champagne, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Champagne has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mona Okorie, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Central's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Holy Cross, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central will take on Holyoke at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Holy Cross, Holy Cross and Bishop Loughlin will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Bishop Loughlin is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
