Softball Recap: St. Mary's Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

St. Mary had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past the Seaside Seagulls 16-3 on Thursday. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Camilla Marquez spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits.

At the plate, Giahni Ruiz was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Analysa Mejia was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

St. Mary's hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory got St. Mary's back to even at 9-9. As for Seaside, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Looking ahead, St. Mary's will take on Crismon at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rattlers have averaged an impressive 12.5 runs per game this season. As for Seaside, they will challenge Scappoose at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
