Centralia is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They will head out on the road to square off against the Onaga Buffaloes at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
11 must be Centralia's lucky number: they beat Wabaunsee with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Panthers blew past the Chargers 11-1. The Panthers not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12, 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Onaga). They never let Blue Valley get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Thursday. The Buffaloes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.
Addison DeChant made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Onaga got a massive performance out of Annie Force, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Force also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ember Conger, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Onaga kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Onaga is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Centralia, their record is now 2-0.
Centralia might still be hurting after the 15-9 defeat they got from Onaga in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
