The Manti Templars will face off against the South Sevier Rams at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Manti is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Friday just wasn't the day for Manti's offense. They came up short against Union on Friday, falling 12-0. The loss continues a trend for the Templars in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost four in a row.
Manti saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Durke Larsen, who went 1-for-2 with one triple.
Meanwhile, South Sevier came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Buckaroo get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory.
Not much got past Jax Christiansen, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Monticello off the board. Christiansen has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Grady Heaps and Gus Ingram did most of the damage at the plate: Heaps went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two RBI, while Ingram got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three stolen bases gave Heaps a new career-high. Cannon Barney was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
South Sevier was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Manti's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for South Sevier, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Manti hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like South Sevier struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Manti suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to South Sevier when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Will the Templars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
