Softball Recap: Horizon Science Academy Mckinley Park Beats Intrinsic Charter School Downtown Campus for Their Third Straight Win

With a playoff win on the line, Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park rose to the challenge on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Intrinsic Charter School Downtown Campus Ravens with a sharp 20-3 victory. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by nine runs or more this season.

Rebecca Gonzalez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one triple, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park got a massive performance out of Litzie Bucio, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Bucio is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Lizzet Bucio was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win (which was Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park's third in a row) raised their record to 16-5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Intrinsic Charter School Downtown Campus, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Looking ahead, Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park will welcome Cristo Rey Jesuit at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in the Hawks' favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while the Cristeros have been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road. Intrinsic Charter School Downtown Campus does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
