Greencastle is 1-6 against North Montgomery since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tiger Cubs will head out on the road to square off against the Chargin' Chargers at 10:00 a.m. Greencastle's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so North Montgomery's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Greencastle is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs last Thursday, they were much more limited against Lafayette Central Catholic on Saturday. They fell 5-1 to the Knights.

Sam Gooch was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played.
Meanwhile, North Montgomery and Southmont faced off in a cross-town battle on Thursday. The Chargin' Chargers put the hurt on the Mounties with a sharp 15-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Chargin' Chargers, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Keaton Brown made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cade Cole, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Crew Cole, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
North Montgomery always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .592. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southmont only posted an OBP of .371.
North Montgomery is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Greencastle, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-4.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Greencastle has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. However, it's not like North Montgomery struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Greencastle might still be hurting after the 8-2 loss they got from North Montgomery when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Tiger Cubs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
