McCutcheon gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Western by a score of 7-2. The victory continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.
The team relied heavily on Jon Riley, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Lafayette Jefferson fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against North Montgomery on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chargin' Chargers by a score of 5-4. The Bronchos' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Lafayette Jefferson also got a good showing from Erasmo Santiallana, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Santiallana has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lafayette Jefferson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Pechin, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Wyatt Shuman also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Lafayette Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for McCutcheon, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.
Lafayette Jefferson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: McCutcheon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Lafayette Jefferson, though, as they've only averaged .247. Will they be able to contain McCutcheon's hitters?
