After flying high against the Kansas School for the Deaf Jackrabbits last Tuesday, the Veritas Christian Eagles came back down to earth. Veritas Christian was the victim of a tough 64-38 loss at the hands of the Vikings on Friday. Veritas Christian was down 55-32 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Veritas Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Gavin Oberzan, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Oberzan is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Vaughn Heck, who scored six points along with two steals.
Mission Valley was led to victory by Porter Deters and Hunter Tenbrink. Deters scored 13 points along with three steals, while Tenbrink scored 21 points along with five assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tenbrink has scored all season. Kale Mccart was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.
Veritas Christian dropped their record down to 5-10 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Mission Valley, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.
Veritas Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the at 5:00 p.m. on January 27th. Manhattan HomeSchool CHIEF presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Eagles in Kansas (the are ranked 141st, while the Eagles are ranked 314th). As for Mission Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Bulldogs.
