The Payson Longhorns had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 55-43 victory over San Tan Foothills. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 17 to 6 on the offensive boards, as Payson did.
Payson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Clara Whaley, who scored 14 points along with 4 steals. Whaley is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Mylee Redford was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
San Tan Foothills' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cienna Witcher, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. The contest was Witcher's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Horlacher, who scored 12 points along with 5 steals.
Payson's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for San Tan Foothills, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Payson will head out on the road to face off against Bourgade Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for San Tan Foothills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wickenburg at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
