The Holy Family Tigers will square off against the Mead Mavericks at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Holy Family will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Holy Family is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Thompson Valley by a score of 28-21. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Tigers were the better team in the second half.
Meanwhile, Mead was fully in charge on Saturday, breezing past Lewis-Palmer 52-10. The victory continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Rangers: they've now won seven in a row.
Mead's win came from a few key players Holy Family will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ryan St. Aubin, who picked up 174 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. His longest reception was for an incredible 76 yards. Noah Chapala handled things on the ground, rushing for 136 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Mead didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Lewis-Palmer to a completion percentage of just 38.1%. The team can thank Jordan Patterson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mead has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.6 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.6 in their last three games.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Mead, racking up 16 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Cooper Modrzejewski, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Holy Family's record now sits at 10-1. As for Mead, their record is now 9-2.
Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground. Holy Family has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 177.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 222.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Holy Family didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Mead when the teams last played back in October, but they still walked away with a 27-21 win. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mavericks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
