New York School for the Deaf is 2-8 against Lexington School for the Deaf since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The New York School for the Deaf Golden Tornadoes are on the road again and play against the Lexington School for the Deaf Blue Jays at 5:15 p.m. on December 19th. New York School for the Deaf comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Tuesday, New York School for the Deaf came up short against Rhode Island School for the Deaf and fell 34-22.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Arturo Dominguez-Fermin, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kalilou Kaba, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Lexington School for the Deaf also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Garden by a score of 60-50.
Despite their defeat, Lexington School for the Deaf saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Cristhian De La Cruz, who scored 20 points along with three steals, was perhaps the best of all. The matchup was De La Cruz's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Larsen, who scored 18 points.
New York School for the Deaf bumped their record down to 1-7 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Lexington School for the Deaf, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: New York School for the Deaf have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 34.4% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Lexington School for the Deaf struggles in that department as they've nailed 43.8% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
New York School for the Deaf ended up a good deal behind Lexington School for the Deaf in their previous matchup back in January, losing 55-41. Can New York School for the Deaf avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
