The Wendell Trojans will face off against the Soda Springs Cardinals at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Soda Springs will be up against a hot Wendell squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Wendell was the clear victor by a 12-4 margin over American Falls on Saturday. Considering the Trojans have won four matches by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Macie Bird spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jace Olmos, who scored a run while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Sophie Mattix, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.
Olmos wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Wendell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Soda Springs got the win against West Side on Thursday by a conclusive 19-9. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Brynlee Hemmert was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Aiyana Davis was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Wendell pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Soda Springs, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Everything went Wendell's way against Soda Springs in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Wendell made off with an 18-2 win. Will Wendell repeat their success, or does Soda Springs has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
