Plainfield East is a perfect 10-0 against Romeoville since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bengals will face off against the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Plainfield East is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
While Plainfield East didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Joliet West 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bengals have posted against the Tigers since May 6, 2019.
Plainfield East got a great performance from Maya Patel as she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Patel has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Plainfield East's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Meranda Abante, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Romeoville). They blew past Joliet Central 21-2 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Lillian Roberts was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Alexis Estrada was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Romeoville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Plainfield East's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Romeoville, their record now sits at 4-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Plainfield East hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Romeoville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Plainfield East skirted past Romeoville 4-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Bengals repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
