The Alamo Heights Mules will face off against the New Braunfels Unicorns at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Alamo Heights came up short against Pieper last Friday, falling 56-32. While losing is never fun, the Mules can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 492nd, while the Warriors are ranked 38th).
Despite the loss, Alamo Heights got top-tier performance from Berkley Hart, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 71.9% of Alamo Heights' points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, New Braunfels beat Canyon 42-35 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Unicorns.
Alamo Heights better keep an eye on Alyana Mcgarity. She was instrumental in New Braunfels' win, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Ryler Wilson, who had eight points and seven rebounds.
New Braunfels smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.
New Braunfels pushed their record up to 15-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Alamo Heights, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-12.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Alamo Heights has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.9 boards per game. However, it's not like New Braunfels struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Alamo Heights might still be hurting after the 46-24 loss they got from New Braunfels in their previous meeting back in December of 2017. Can Alamo Heights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
