Baseball Recap: North Delta Find Success

North Delta took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Pillow Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The North Delta Green Wave sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Pillow Academy Mustangs on Saturday. This was payback for the Green Wave, who suffered a 14-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

North Delta let Herron Williams and Owens Johnson run wild. Williams got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI, while Johnson scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Johnson is becoming a predictor of North Delta's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

North Delta has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. Pillow Academy dropped their record down to 1-3 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, North Delta will take on Starkville Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. North Delta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Pillow Academy, they will challenge Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
