Even though the Delta Eagles have not done well against the Wapahani Raiders recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Delta had just enough and edged Wapahani out 42-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Delta has posted yet this season.
Delta found their leader in underclassman Jillian Barr, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Barr is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Paizley Cool, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Wapahani's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Megan Luce, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Luce is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Emily Luce was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Delta now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Wapahani, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-5.
Delta will be playing at home against Yorktown at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Yorktown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Thursday. Wapahani will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Monroe Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Monroe Central will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
