It was a good run, but The Philip Simmons Iron Horses unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Hanahan by a score of 37-34. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Several Iron Horses players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was TROY STEVENSON, who picked up 166 receiving yards and four touchdowns. STEVENSON's longest reception was for an incredible 75 yards. Another player making a difference was Markellis "kj" Asbury, who rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown.
Hanahan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kevon Rivera, who rushed for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Rivera is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Julius Hippensteel was another key contributor, throwing for 259 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes.
Philip Simmons' loss dropped their record down to 8-1. As for Hanahan, their victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-4.
Philip Simmons will challenge Battery Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Battery Creek comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Hanahan, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Beaufort at 7:30 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Jadyn Andrews and Rivera.
