Dobson is 0-10 against Mesa since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Dobson Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Mesa Jackrabbits at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Dobson beat Mountain View 55-50. The win made it back-to-back wins for Dobson.
Donovan Beard continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with five assists and three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Demetrius Malone, who scored four points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Mesa had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 65-40 margin over Skyline. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Mesa has posted since December 28, 2023.
Mesa can attribute much of their success to McKy Peters, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds, and Conway Cummard, who scored 20 points along with five assists. Cummard hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jarren Galarza, who scored six points along with six rebounds and five assists.
The victory got Dobson back to even at 9-9. As for Mesa, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Dobson hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.2 points per game. However, it's not like Mesa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 60.5 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Dobson came up short against Mesa in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 55-50. Can Dobson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
