The Mullen Mustangs will square off against the Regis Jesuit Raiders at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Mullen is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over Thomas Jefferson on Monday. With that win, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Alexander Andrews looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Mullen got a massive performance out of Blake Young, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Young has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Charlie Krza, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple.
Mullen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Regis Jesuit never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Valor Christian 11-0. With that victory, the Raiders brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Diesel Bernosky and Chase Massey did most of the damage at the plate: Bernosky scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Massey scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Bernosky also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Gavin Cronin was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Mullen has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Regis Jesuit, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
Mullen beat Regis Jesuit 9-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
