El Camino has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Christian Brothers Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. El Camino will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 852nd, while Christian Brothers is ranked 203rd).
El Camino pushed their score all the way to 56 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Vista del Lago by a score of 59-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss El Camino has suffered yet this season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Matt Martin, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovin Rolph, who scored 12 points.
El Camino struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Vista del Lago racked up 17 assists.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Christian Brothers ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 69-67 win over Del Campo. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Shawn Underwood Jr., who scored 32 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kamari Simpson, who scored ten points.
El Camino bumped their record down to 6-13 with that loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Christian Brothers, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-9.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. El Camino hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 57.2 points per game. It's a different story for Christian Brothers, though, as they've been averaging only 64.6 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
El Camino was dealt a bruising 85-56 defeat at the hands of Christian Brothers in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point El Camino was down 44-23.
