Glendora extended their postseason success on Friday against Rancho Verde. They took down the Rancho Verde Mustangs 31-13. 31 seems to be a good number for the Tartans as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
A big part of Glendora's victory came down to the chemistry between Brandon Coronado and his top target Tim Johnson. Coronado rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries while Johnson picked up 82 receiving yards and a touchdown. Johnson's longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards.
Glendora didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Caden Smith, Johnson, Aidan Yamazaki, and Austin Coronado picked up one apiece. Yamazaki is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in the last 18 games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in Rancho Verde's side was Anthony Fiorenza, who picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Despite the loss, Rancho Verde saw an underclassman step up: sophomore George Campbell rushed for 171 yards. Those 171 rushing yards gave Campbell a new career-high.
Glendora has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those good results were due in large part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.8 points per game. As for Rancho Verde, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
