Softball Recap: Avon's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Avon can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Carmel Greyhounds as they made off with a 9-2 win. That's more bragging rights for the Orioles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Chloe Stopperich made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stopperich was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Avon got a great performance from Addie Forst as she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ada Dittemore, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Yeary, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Avon's victory bumped their record up to 2-9. As for Carmel, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.

Looking ahead, Avon will be taking part in a tournament against Lake Central at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Orioles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Carmel, they will square off against Tri-West Hendricks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
