The Richland County Tigers lost a heartbreaker to the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces when they met  back in January of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again  on Thursday. The  matchup between  the pair wasn't particularly close, with Richland County falling  43-27. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage  in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings  (they are ranked 290th, while Mt. Carmel is ranked 114th).
  Kelysse Weiler and  GRAYCE BURGENER certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss.  Weiler  scored 14 points, while  BURGENER  scored eight points. The  game was  Weiler's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
 Richland County  struggled to work together and  finished the game with only three  assists. That's the fewest  assists they've managed all season.
 Richland County has  not been sharp recently, as they've  lost four of their last five games,  which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Mt. Carmel, their win was  their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which  pushed their record up to 15-3.
 Richland County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Salem at 1:00  p.m.  on January 6th. Salem and Richland County are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Mt. Carmel, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Edwards County at 1:15  p.m.  on Saturday.
