This season hasn't been kind to the Independence Patriots, who are still winless after their fifth contest. They fell to Sierra Linda 51-47. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Independence in their matchups with Sierra Linda: they've now lost three in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sierra Linda to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mariana Mathis, who scored 17 points along with 7 steals. Shania Holmes was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 10 steals.
Independence's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Sierra Linda, their win bumped their record up to 1-6.
Independence will head out on the road to face off against La Joya Community at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. La Joya Community comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 15 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Sierra Linda won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against South Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on December 8th.
