Basketball Recap: First Coast Falls Despite Big Games from Christian Williams and Amari Walton

First Coast was the 66-58 winner over Bartram Trail when they last played one another back in November of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. The First Coast Buccaneers took a 45-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bartram Trail Bears on Thursday. The matchup marked the Buccaneers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Amari Walton and Christian Williams certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Walton dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards, while Williams dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Walton is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down 11 or more in the last five games he's played.

Even though they lost, First Coast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bartram Trail only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

Bartram Trail's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but David Souza led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. Jaxon Williamson was another key player, putting up eight points and six assists.

First Coast's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-11. As for Bartram Trail, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-8.

First Coast has already played their next game (against Nease), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Bartram Trail will take on Matanzas at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Matanzas is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.3 points per game this season.
