Gilmer is 2-8 against Carthage since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Gilmer Buckeyes will be staying on the road to face off against the Carthage Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on December 1st. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Gilmer walked away with it. They walked away with a 34-21 victory over the Chaparrals on Friday. Given Gilmer's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Aubrey is ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Will Henderson and Cadon Tennison were among the main playmakers for Gilmer as the former rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown and the latter rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Tennison really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run.
Meanwhile, Carthage put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They had just enough and edged Pleasant Grove out 34-31.
Carthage relied on the efforts of KJ Edwards, who rushed for 271 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.4 yards per carry, and KD Matlock, who gained 287 total yards and four touchdowns. Benny Smith was in the mix too, providing Carthage with two touchdowns.
Gilmer's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Carthage, their victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0.
Gilmer might still be hurting after the 28-7 loss they got from Carthage when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Can Gilmer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
